The North Carolina High Country is filled with endless possibilities of what to do on a cold winter day or hot summer afternoon.  Over the next few days, you;ll see some of the local activities that fill our’s the our guest’s time; whether they’re staying for a single night or a summer vacation.

Elk River Falls is spectacular any time of year.

This week was the Innkeepers’ Anniversary.  Greg and Amy Gardner have been married for 20 years and returned to Banner Elk, after being gone for more than 18, to run Banner Haven B&B and Cabin Rentals.  They spent their anniversary visiting Elk River Falls.  As you can see, the weather wasn’t warm and swimming wasn’t included but the falls are still a great place to visit.

Located just west of Banner Elk, in Elk Park, NC the falls can be accessed by following the signs from Hwy 19E leaving north from Newland.

Signs will take visitors to the end of a paved road and down a gravel way, about 100 yards to a parking area.  From this point you’ll see Elk River and the falls are less than a 5 minute hike.

In the summer, when warm weather is here, the falls are a place you’ll find locals swimming and occasionally jumping off the falls.

NOTE: We DO NOT recommend this.  It’s dangerous and people have been hurt and killed jumping from the falls.

Fishing is a little safer and more enjoyable.

Enjoy the photos from last week and come back for more.
