Banner Haven is glad to support local restaurants, like Dunn’s Deli, through our flexible breakfast options.  Instead of having a set time and small menu, guests can choose from several local restaurants to have their breakfast.  Dunn’s Deli is a favorite.

Opened in November of 2001, Dunn’s is located at 134 West Main St in Banner Elk; just west of the stoplight.  The building is situated in the front yard of the historic Perry House Bed and Breakfast, which is also owned by Robyn and Mike Dunn.  The Perry House is one of the oldest homes in town and home to a beautiful B&B.

Originally built as a gas staion, in the early 1900s, the building has been home to more than 6 businesses over the last century.  As the Dunn’s Deli enters their 12th year of operation, the are establishing themselves as a permanent fixture in the community and one of the buildings longer lasting tenants.  Showing no signs of slowing down, the deli is a popular spot for many local people and a great location for non-locals to find some of the best sandwiches in town.

Open 7 days a week, serving breakfast, lunch and an early diner, Mike and Robyn have something for everyone.  Using primarily Boar’s Head brand meats and cheeses and breads baked daily, on the premises, the staff has created several unique sandwiches that have gained local lore.  It’s been said by more than one person, “Dunn’s builds the best reuben in the High Country.”  Along with legendary sandwiches, you can fine creative salads, soups, and side dishes.  Of course, the prices are as reasonable as the food is good.

Dunn’s has the best prices in town on bottled and draft beers, as well as bottles of select wines.

You can enjoy a sandwich, knowing the staff takes great pride in the sliced and made to order sandwiches.  Mike will tell you “We are not fast food … we are good food prepared as fast as we can.”

The next time you’re in Banner Elk, take time to stop by.  You’ll find locals, students, tourists and more hanging out enjoying great food and good company.  Maybe Mike or Robyn can give you a tour of the Perry House.

Remember, you can always stay at Banner Haven and Azalea Inn, when in Banner Elk.
