The Big Lots in Boone, NC on Sunday is where a rampaging deer slammed head-first into the sliding glass doors entering the store, knocking itself out and causing massive blood loss.

Unfortunately, the deer injured herself bad enough she had to be put down.  After waiting for her to “wake up” or otherwise recover from the injury, she continued to lose blood and the decision was made that she had to be put down.

The Boone police officers gave the deer every chance to make it but had to consider the chance she could come to, injured, and harm any number of people in the crowd gathering to watch.  It was not only the only choice but the safest choice for people in the store and at the shopping center.  The officers made the right decision.

The deer’s legs were tied and she was loaded into the back of a truck where she was taken to the rear of the store, out of site of passers-by.

The officers made a tough call in the face of people who were not supportive of their choice.

Good job guys.
